The Reds beat the New York Mets 5-3 in downtown Cincinnati in a game heard last night on WRBI. Sal Stewart and Spencer Steer hit home runs in the 1st inning to stake the Reds to an early 4-0 lead. Stewart’s 3-run blast was his team-leading 14th homer of the season. Steer added a two-out solo shot for his 11th of the year. Brady Singer (3-6) started and gave up one run, three hits and three walks with five strikeouts over five innings for his first win since April 25. Tony Santillan pitched a scoreless 9th for his fourth save. The Reds go for the series sweep this afternoon. Nick Lodolo (2-1, 5.21 earned run average) makes the start for Cincinnati. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week. In three games last week, all Fever wins, Clark averaged 25.3 points per game, 6.7 assists a contest, and 4.3 rebounds per game. She was also 49 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three-point range. It’s the fourth time in her career that Clark has won the honor, and her first this season.
On the court last night, the Fever dumped the expansion Toronto Tempo 113-91 to round out WNBA Commissioner’s Cup play at 5-1. With the win, Indiana improves to 9-5. Kelsey Mitchell led the way with 27 points. Sophie Cunningham came off the bench and added 24 points, including six 3-pointers. Clark scored 21, and Aliyah Boston recorded a double double: 18 points and 11 rebounds. The Fever will be back on the court at home tomorrow night against the Atlanta Dream.
