Dennis George Dietz

Dennis George Dietz, age 73 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 7, 2026, at his home after a hard-fought battle with esophageal cancer. Born October 2, 1952, in Batesville, he is the son of Anthony and Agnes (Nee: Weigel) Dietz.  He married Sandy Ferguson January 25, 1980, at the Bible Baptist Church in Metamora, Indiana.

Dennis served in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam Era and worked for the Romweber Furniture factory in Batesville for 40 years as a Master Craftsman of veneer wood. After the closing of Romweber, he worked for Hillrom, Baxter, and Jancoa before finally retiring in 2025.

Dennis, Sandy and Beth enjoyed many family vacations over the years, including Canada, Hawaii, Jamaica, an Alaskan cruise, and many trips to Mackinac Island, Michigan and Walt Disney World.

He loved hiking and camping in the Rocky Mountains when he was younger but discovered the wonders of the ocean in his later years. Vacations to Hilton Head Island were a special joy for Dennis and Sandy.

Dennis loved to watch both the Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Reds and was very proud of his yard, so much that planning for his flower beds started in late winter.

Dennis’s greatest joy in life though was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Sandy Dietz of Batesville; daughter Elizabeth (Brett) Lowrie of Batesville; grandchildren Kayla and Jaina; siblings Tom (Sharon) Carlson) Dietz of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Tim (Susan) Dietz of Batesville, Ron (Gail) Dietz of Westfield, Indiana, Mary Dietz of Batesville, and Roger (Debbie) Dietz of Batesville, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation is Tuesday, May 12th, from 4 – 7 p.m., at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 13th, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home with Pastor Stephen Sapp officiating.  The burial will follow at the Metamora Cemetery (Mobley Addition), with military graveside rites being conducted by the Ripley County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 of Batesville.
