(Versailles, IN) – Ripley County Prosecutor Ric Hertel says 46-year-old Larry W. Webster II has been charged with Attempted Murder (Level 1 felony) and being a Habitual Offender in connection with an incident last fall in which an Indiana State Police Sergeant was left injuries that required major surgery.

Webster is also facing Attempted Murder and being a Habitual Offender charges in Jefferson County stemming from the same series of events.

It was on the afternoon of November 19, 2025, when Jefferson County 9-1-1 received multiple calls reporting a crash at the intersection of U.S. 421 and Michigan Road. A witness observed a pickup truck intentionally strike a minivan stopped at the intersection; run over the driver as he stood outside his vehicle, and then strike him a second time.

The victim was taken to Norton Kings’ Daughter’s Hospital in Madison with serious injuries.

Both the victim and the witness gave police a description of the van.

ISP Sgt. David Meyer later spotted Webster on foot on Old Michigan Road in Ripley County, about a mile from where the truck was found.

Hertel says Webster attacked Meyer without warning, gouged his eyes and caused the trooper to suffer a broken shoulder.

A passing motorist intervened and pulled Webster off Sgt. Meyer, whose shoulder injury required complete shoulder replacement surgery.
