(Batesville, IN) – With spring upon us, it is time for Brum Woods volunteer work days.
The work days are held the third Saturday of the month between April and November and run from 8 a.m. to Noon.
Over the past few years, these have been sparsely attended, and Batesville Parks and Recreation would like to see more volunteers help maintain the 80 acres of bike and hiking trails.
“Batesville Parks two full-time park employees can’t give Brum Woods the attention it needs with the other parks they maintain to keep these trails maintained and improvements made to wet areas, bridges and reroutes,” reads a statement from the department. “These work days have been very successful in the past, much work has been accomplished, and this helps keep the trails open as much as possible.”
The events are canceled from time to time due to inclement weather, and are announced on a sign at the gravel parking lot on the shed where volunteers gather, and on the Batesville Parks Facebook page.
Batesville Parks thanks past volunteers in the past who have shown up for these work days on their own time.
The area is named after Lena Brum, who donated the 80 acres to the city. The woods have become a network of paved, gravel and dirt trails through years of work and effort by volunteers.
This year’s work days are:
- April 18 (a few days prior to Earth Day April 22)
- May 16
- June 20
- July 18 (Freundenfest weekend)
- August 15
- September 19
- October 17 (Sweetest Day)
- November 21
