The Indiana Pacers snapped a franchise-record 13-game losing streak by getting past the Charlotte Hornets 114-112 in NBA action heard last night on the Sports Voice. It was also Rick Carlisle’s 1,000th career win as an NBA coach. Paskal Siakam led the Blue and Gold with 30 points and 14 rebounds. The 7-31 Pacers take on Miami at home tomorrow night.
The Miami Hurricanes got past the Ole Miss Rebels 31-27 in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona. Quarterback Carson Beck’s three-yard scamper with 18 seconds remaining lifted the Hurricanes to the win and a berth in the CFP national championship game on January 19.
The top-seeded and 14-0 Indiana Hoosiers meet the #5 Oregon Ducks in the other CFP semifinal tonight at the Peach Bowl in Atlanta. Kickoff is at 7:30.
The Cincinnati Reds have avoided arbitration with eight players. The team signed Gavin Lux, Spencer Steer, TJ Friedl, Will Benson, Matt McLain, Brady Singer, Nick Lodolo and Tony Santillan to one-year contracts. Graham Ashcraft and Tyler Stephenson did not come to terms and will likely head to arbitration hearings.
The Indianapolis Colts are apparently sticking with their signal caller. General manager Chris Ballard said Thursday that he is looking at Daniel Jones in both the near- and long-term for the starting quarterback spot. Jones led the Colts to an 8-2 start before suffering a season-ending torn Achilles in December.
