Oldenburg Academy volleyball edged Milan three sets to one in Class 1A Sectional 60 quarterfinal action at Hauser heard last night on the Sports Voice. Scores were 25-21, 25-19, 25-19, 25-17. The Twisters claimed the first, third and fourth sets while the Indians won the second set. Oldenburg improves to 25-6 and advances to tomorrow afternoon’s semifinal against top-ranked Trinity Lutheran. Milan ends its season at 17-11.
Batesville topped Franklin County in three sets at 3A Sectional 29 at South Dearborn. Scores were 25-12, 25-15, 25-6. The 22-9 Bulldogs take on 26-1 Greensburg in tomorrow morning’s sectional semifinals.
North Decatur moves on after beating Waldron in three sets at Class 1A Sectional 59 at Morristown. Scores were 25-10, 25-7, 25-15. The Chargers improve to 15-16 and will face Knightstown in tomorrow afternoon’s semifinal round.
East Central girls soccer got past Franklin Central 2-1 in the IHSAA regional semifinal. The Trojans will play Carmel for the regional championship tomorrow afternoon on the Greyhounds’ home pitch…Oldenburg advanced with a 7-1 victory over Monrovia. Claire Niese recorded a hat trick for the Twisters. Also finding the back of the net for OA were Olivia Leising, Sophia Leising, Kathryn Mack, and Aubrey Baker. Oldenburg plays Heritage Christian for the regional title tomorrow at Knightstown.

Evan McPherson’s 36-yard field goal with seven seconds remaining lifted the Cincinnati Bengals over the Pittsburgh Steelers 33-31 on Thursday Night Football in the Queen City. Forty-year-old quarterback Joe Flacco made his Bengals home debut and outdueled 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers by engineering the drive that set up McPherson for the game-winning kick. Flacco threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns. Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase had a game for the ages, with a franchise-record 16 catches to go along with 161 yards and a TD. Running back Chase Brown finished with 108 yards on the ground. Defensively, Jordan Battle and DJ Turner recorded interceptions. With the win, the Bengals snap a four-game losing streak and improve to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the AFC North.
Indiana University has reached an eight-year contract extension with head football coach Curt Cignetti. The $93 million deal will make Cignetti one of the highest paid coaches in FBS. He’ll receive about $11.6 million annually. The contract extension runs through the 2033 season. Cignetti guided the Hoosiers to a 10-2 record and a surprising College Football Playoff appearance in his first season at the school in 2024. This season, the #3 Hoosiers are 6-0 heading into tomorrow’s home game against Michigan State.
