The Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday acquired QB Joe Flacco and a 2026 sixth-round draft pick from the Cleveland Browns for Cincinnati’s ’26 fifth-round draft choice. The Bengals also released QB Brett Rypien. The trade for Flacco was made because the Bengals season has spiraled downward since Joe Burrow suffered a turf toe injury in Week 2. Current quarterback Jake Browning has thrown six touchdowns and eight interceptions with a 64.5% completion rate in Cincinnati’s three losses with him at the helm. Flacco is an 18-year veteran out of the University of Delaware, and was drafted in the first round by Baltimore in 2008. He was the MVP of Super Bowl XLVII and played for the Ravens until 2018, and has spent time with the Denver Broncos, New York Jets, two stints with the Browns, and the Indianapolis Colts. Rypien is a sixth-year player who spent the past three games on the Bengals active roster. He was signed to the active roster off Cincinnati’s practice squad on September 16.

The Indianapolis Colts have signed kicker Michael Badgley to replace the injured Spencer Shrader. Badgley was originally signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2018 but failed to make the team that season. He returned to the Colts in 2021 to replace the injured Rigoberto Sanchez and handled kicking duties in weeks 6 through 18 that year. Shrader sustained a season-ending injury last Sunday against Las Vegas.

The Indiana Pacers opened the preseason with a 135-134 overtime victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves in Minneapolis. RayJ Dennis led the Pacers in scoring with 16 points off the bench. Draft pick Taelon Peter played 28 minutes and scored 10 points. Indiana’s next exhibition game is Saturday night at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder, whom they will also start the regular season against on October 23.
