(Batesville, IN) – Work on the City of Batesville’s bike and pedestrian trail expansion along State Road 229 is set to begin on Wednesday, August 27th.
This initial phase of the project will impact northbound traffic on State Road 229 between Hillcrest Avenue and State Road 46.
During this phase, the northbound lanes will be closed, and traffic will be detoured.
Southbound traffic will not be affected.
Northbound motorists will be able to use either Mitchell Avenue or Tekulve Avenue as an alternate route (see photo).
This project was initially approved in 2019, and city officials say it’s a significant step toward creating safer and more connected pathways for residents to use and enjoy.
The entire project will eventually encompass the area along State Road 229 between Franklin Street and Six Pine Ranch Road.
The work will be completed in phases, with the entire project expected to be finished by the summer of 2027.
“We know that any type of road work can be disruptive, and we appreciate your patience as we work on this significant community improvement,” reads a statement from the Mayor’s Office. “We understand there will be temporary inconveniences, and at the same time, we are excited to see this important work get underway.”
