Herbert B. “Herb” Lamping

Herbert B. “Herb” Lamping, age 89 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at The Chateau of Batesville.  Born September 25, 1935, in Batesville, he is the son of Harry and Agnes (Nee: Saeger) Lamping.  Herb married Mildred “Millie” Sturwold on July 16, 1960, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in St. Peter’s, Indiana.

Herb was a hard worker all of his life.  He was a factory worker for the Batesville Casket Company, before retiring.  He enjoyed gardening and working on his mini farm, which led to him becoming a vendor at the Batesville Farmers Market for over 10 years.  His passion for the outdoors allowed him to enjoy many hobbies, which included hunting, fishing, throwing horseshoes, and playing cornhole. He also enjoyed a competitive game of cards with family and friends.  He was a member of the Army Reserves, St. Louis Catholic Church, Knights of St. John Commandery #243, Knights of Columbus Council #1461, and the Eagles Aerie #1130.

He is survived by his wife Millie of Batesville; daughters Sharon (Nick) Doll and Barb (Terry) Flodder, all of Batesville; son Brian (Kelly) Lamping of Guilford, Indiana; daughter-in-law Leisa Lamping of Moores Hill, Indiana; sister Julie Raver of Batesville; brothers Richard (Sally) Lamping of Fishers, Indiana and Steve (Barb) Lamping of New Trenton, Indiana; grandchildren Kim Thompson, Craig Doll, Jason Flodder, Chris Doll, Kelsey Ostermyer, Brad Lamping, Heather Wilson, and Abby Lamping and 11 great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by his son Dale Lamping; sisters Anna Mae Nobbe, Bernice Menkedick, Thelma Litmer, and Mary Catherine Lamping.

Visitation is Tuesday, April 22nd, from 4 – 7 p.m., at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 23rd, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg, with Fr. Suresh Ganta officiating.  The burial will follow at St. Louis Cemetery in Batesville, with military graveside rites being conducted by the Ripley County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3183 and by the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 of Batesville.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council #1461, Our Hospice or Masses at the church.  For online condolences go to www.weigelfh.com.
