The Cincinnati Reds held off the Colorado Rockies 9-6 to claim the weekend series in Denver as heard yesterday on WRBI. Hunter Greene gave up four hits and three earned runs while striking out seven, and did not walk a batter in six innings to get his second win of the year. The Reds hit four home runs on the afternoon, including two from Tyler Stephenson. He had a total of three hits, including a double. Nathaniel Lowe and Sal Stewart also homered. The Reds’ nine-game, 10-day road trip continues with the first of three tonight in Seattle against the Mariners. Lefthander Andrew Abbott (5-5, 4.11 ERA) makes the start for Cincinnati. He’ll be opposed by Mariners righthander George Kirby (7-8, 3.76 ERA). Coverage begins at 9:10 on 103.9 FM.
In college football, the #1-ranked high school wide receiver in the country has committed to defending national champion Indiana. Monshun Sales, a standout wide receiver at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, announced his commitment on Friday. Sales totaled 37 receptions for nearly 800 receiving yards and nine touchdowns last season.
The Indiana Pacers finished NBA Summer League play at 2-3. The Blue and Gold routed the New Orleans Pelicans 91-73 Saturday night in Las Vegas in the final Summer League game for both teams. New Orleans also finished at 2-3.
The Indiana Fever rallied to beat the New York Liberty 108-88 in WNBA action Saturday night in downtown Indianapolis. Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana with 33 points, after scoring 30 the night before against Seattle. The win over New York was the second of a back-to-back for the 16-10 Fever, who will conclude the four-game homestand Wednesday night against Connecticut (7-18).
Sunday’s IndyCar NTT series Music City Grand Prix at Nashville Superspeedway was postponed by rain until 3:00 this afternoon. The race will be reduced from 300 to 225 laps due to a forecast of record heat in the Nashville area this afternoon. Kyle Kirkwood is on the pole.
