Shirley Ann Meyer

Shirley Ann Meyer, 88, of Aurora, Indiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

She was born on July 28, 1936, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late Crawford “Hap” Peters and Celestine “Lessie” (Englert) Peters.
Shirley attended Marian College in Indianapolis Indiana followed by Campbell Commercial College in Cincinnati. She worked as an assistant for Patent Attorneys at Wood Herrin Evans, which later morphed into Frost & Jacobs in the Carew Tower.

Shirley was a devoted lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Her faith was central to her life, and she served multiple terms on the pastoral council at St. Mary’s Church.
Shirley was a life-long advocate for preserving Aurora’s rich history and community values. She served on the River View Cemetery Board of Directors and was a dedicated supporter of the Hillforest Historical Foundation. She was co-founder and president of the Aurora Preservation Commission, served on the design committee of Aurora Main Street, and often gave guided tours of River View Cemetery and other local historic sites. She was awarded the honor of “Woman of Distinction” in 2010 for her work with the community. Shirley shared a deep love of civic life with her husband, Anthony “Tony” Meyer, who served as Prosecutor, City Attorney, and Judge during his career.
An enthusiastic educator and active community member, Shirley was a substitute teacher at both South Dearborn High School and St. Mary’s School. Shirley enjoyed playing bridge with her friends of the “OBC”. She was also was a member of the Phi Bets Theta Gama Chapter. She was also an avid reader, loved collecting antiques, and enjoyed exploring historic landmarks. Above all, Shirley cherished her time with family.

She is survived by her loving children: Anthony C. Meyer, Lora Meyer, Eric (Marna) Meyer, Annie (Brian) Kaplan, all of Indianapolis, IN; and Becky Clark of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren Nicholas, Lyndsay, Samuel, Sydney, Samantha, Anthony (Rex), Falcon, Mackenzie, Maddie and Mason as well as 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Vesta Philbrick of Milford, NH, sister in law Betty Meyer of Dillsboro, Indiana, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony “Tony” Meyer; her parents, Crawford “Hap” Peters and Celestine “Lessie” Peters; and her sister, Theresa “Tessie” Ann (Bobby) Lischkge.

Friends will be received Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at St. Mary’s Church from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m., with Father Chris Craig officiating.

Interment will follow at River View Cemetery, Aurora, IN.
