Mrs. Betty June (Jackson) Firth

Mrs. Betty June (Jackson) Firth, age 99, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on April 25, 1925 in Madison, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of Harrison Henry and Lula Hazel (Stewart) Jackson. Betty worked with her mother and her brother at Jackson Restaurant and later was a server for Fiesta Restaurant in Madison, Indiana. Betty was united in marriage to James Robert Firth on December 20, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana. This happy union of nearly 26 years was blessed with three children, Patricia, Julia and Robert. Betty refurbished many homes in Switzerland and Jefferson Counties over the years. Bob and Betty purchased McKay’s Grocery Store and renamed it Firth’s Grocery Store in Brooksburg, Indiana for five years. Betty and Bob were the first to develop river lots on the Ohio River in Brooksburg, Indiana in 1959. They also developed Firth’s Landing, presently known as, Kelly’s Landing in Brooksburg, Indiana in 1964. They also developed Willow Haven Campground from 1964-1969 and the Firth Addition in Vevay, Indiana. In 1969, Betty and Bob purchased the homestead where Betty currently resided where they farmed tobacco, cattle, and hay, as well as, raising their family. She was a member of the Switzerland Baptist Church and attended the Patriot Baptist Church. Betty kept a meticulous home and lawn and enjoyed exercising, as well as, reading in her spare-time. Betty enjoyed golfing and was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and loved her family deeply. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. Her love for her family was evident in her weekly routine, where she cherished every Tuesday spent with her daughter, Julia, getting her hair done and visiting her son, Bobby, in the nursing home, followed by a delightful meal at a local restaurant. She always kept a watchful eye on the Angus cattle at her farm for Doug and Julia. Betty had a remarkable strength and determination. She never complained, no matter the circumstances. Her unwavering spirit and resilience left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Betty was a wonderful mother, mamaw, aunt and friend to many. Betty passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025, at her residence in Vevay, Indiana.

Betty will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Patricia (Firth) McAllister of Vevay, IN, and Julia (Firth) Brown and her husband, Doug of Moorefield, IN; her son, Robert Harrison “Bobby” Firth and his wife, Lisa of Madison, IN; her grandchildren, Brian (Amy) McAllister, Amanda (Dustin) Alford, Christian (Misty) Breeck, Adam (Elaine) Breeck, and Heidi Jean Brown; her great-grandchildren, Blake (Elisia) McAllister, Grace McAllister, Clay McAllister, Wyatt McAllister, Damian Breeck, Isabella Breeck, Phoenix Rein Vest, Kira June Breeck, and Abigail Alford; her great-great-granddaughter, Claire Ann McAllister; her sister-in-law, Delores Jackson of TN, and her several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harrison Henry Jackson; her mother, Lula Hazel (Stewart) Jackson; her husband, James Robert “Bob” Firth; her grandson, Noah Harrison Breeck; her brothers, Carlysle Dalfred “Curly” Jackson, Alois Russell Jackson, Raymond Stewart Jackson, Harold Melvin “Hickory” Jackson, and Merle Nay Jackson.

Private services are being held at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
