Sports Daily Digest October 19, 2024

In the final week of the high school football regular season last night, Roncalli bested East Central 17-7, Batesville rolled over Connersville 41-0, Franklin County got past Bluffton 29-22, Rushville wins the EIAC Small Division after hammering Greensburg 58-0,  Madison topped Milan 42-28, North Decatur blanked Switzerland County 33-0, South Decatur crushed Irvington Prep 58-0, and Lawrenceburg got past South Dearborn 17-14.

We have Class 3A volleyball sectional semifinal action this morning on WRBI. Greensburg takes on Jennings County, followed by Batesville against host Lawrenceburg. Coverage begins around 11 am with Steve Giesting and Jody Thomas on the call.

Elsewhere, host East Central battles Columbus East in 4A; South Ripley plays Southwestern (Hanover) in 2A action at Brownstown Central; in the 1A sectional at North Decatur, the host Chargers face county rival South Decatur, and Milan takes on Rising Sun at Trinity Lutheran.

Oldenburg Academy plays Heritage Christian in the girls 1A regional championship game at Knightstown. We’ll join that after the Batesville/Lawrenceburg volleyball game. The OA boys go up against Greenwood Christian for the 1A regional title at Knightstown. WRBI coverage begins around 4 p.m. Terrance Arney will call both OA soccer games.

And in 3A girls soccer regional championship action, East Central faces host Carmel this afternoon.

Good luck to area cross country teams participating in sectionals throughout the southern part of the state.

Coming up today in college football, 6-0 Indiana entertains Nebraska, Notre Dame is at Georgia Tech, UC welcomes in Arizona State for Homecoming, Ball State travels to Vanderbilt, Butler hosts the Dayton Flyers, Indiana State goes to Missouri State, Kentucky journeys to Florida and Louisville goes up against the Miami Hurricanes at home.

In the NFL tomorrow, the Bengals take on the Browns in Cleveland in Chapter One of the Battle of Ohio, and the Colts entertain the Miami Dolphins. Both games kick off at 1 p.m.

And the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs enter the Round of 8 tomorrow in Las Vegas.
