(Batesville, IN) – Four Kiwanis scholarships were awarded to Batesville High School seniors at the Scholastic Achievement Awards program on May 10 and at the Senior Awards Night on May 17.
These scholarships totaled six thousand dollars and were awarded to the following students:
Summer Ratcliffe was the recipient of the $2,000 Kiwanis Scholastic Scholarship. To be eligible for this award, applicants had to be Scholastic Award winners for all four years of high school. The winner was selected by a committee of Kiwanis members and school administrators and based upon a written essay submitted by each applicant. This scholarship was originally created by the Batesville Jaycees 58 years ago. When the Jaycees disbanded, the Batesville Kiwanis assumed the sponsorship, beginning in 2017.
The inaugural Kiwanis Achievement Scholarship of $2,000 was awarded to Cayman Werner. This scholarship was created through the generosity of an anonymous local couple. This scholarship will be transitioned to a “First in Family” award in 2024, with an emphasis on seeking student applicants who would be the first members of their families to enroll in post-high school education. Recommendations of faculty and school administrators will play a key role in attracting future applicants for this scholarship.
Cole Pride was selected as a $1,000 State Kiwanis Scholarship winner, while Cayman Werner was the recipient of the $1,000 Batesville Kiwanis Scholarship. Criteria for these awards were academic achievement, with special emphasis placed on community service and extracurricular activities.
Funds for all local Kiwanis scholarships have been placed under the administrative care of the Ripley County Community Foundation (RCCF). Various fundraising activities by the Batesville Kiwanis take place throughout the year, and community support for these projects is greatly appreciated.
In addition, if anyone would like to contribute directly to either of these scholarship funds (Kiwanis or First in Family), they may do so by contacting the Ripley County Community Foundation (RCCF) directly.
The RCCF is a 501(c)(3), and all donations are tax-deductible.
