Budget, funding for education, public safety on legislature’s docket

Statehouse — The 2023 Indiana General Assembly session got underway Monday.

The state’s two-year budget will be crafted during the session, which will last until late April.

State Rep. Randy Frye (R-Greensburg) says the current spending plan is around $37.5 Billion and will fund the state through June 30 of this year.

In addition, the state has $6 Billion in cash reserves.

Frye says he expects the new state budget to be in excess of $38 Billion.

Other top items for lawmakers’ consideration will be funding for education, public safety and infrastructure, and property tax reform.
