Raymond L. Bedel

Raymond L. Bedel, age 76 of Metamora, Indiana died Saturday, December 11, 2021. Born September 18, 1945, he is the son of Clara (Nee: Fischer) and Kenneth Bedel. He was a farmer and worked in the maintenance department at the Batesville Casket Company for 18 years, before retiring.
Raymond was an Air Force veteran and a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Milan V.F.W. Post #6234, Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and the Knights of Columbus Council #1461.

Raymond loved the outdoors! He enjoyed going fishing, taking hikes in the woods, planting trees and spending countless hours working on his farm. He received a State Award for his efforts in soil conservation. According to his family, he could fix anything and if parts were not readily available he could fabricate materials to make things work. He loved working with wood and he could often be found in his workshop carving, building cabinets and quilt racks, just to name a few. To say Raymond had a sweet tooth was an understatement as he loved eating ice cream and would often go back for second and third helpings. He enjoyed all types of pies, with pecan being one of his favorites. The most important thing to Raymond was spending time with his children and grandchildren, attending any type of function, whether it was getting together to play cards, a birthday party or a holiday event.

He is survived by his wife; daughters and son-in-law Rachael and Ralph Werner of Metamora and Regina Bedel of Brownsburg, Indiana; granddaughters Angela and Marie Werner; brother Lawrence (Theresa) Bedel of Oldenburg, Indiana; sisters Joan Nobbe, Lois (Carl) Bohman and Jane (Robert) Fussner, all of St. Peter’s, Indiana. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Diane Bedel and brother-in-law Harold Nobbe.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 16th, from 9:30 – 11:00 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Daniel Bedel and Rev. Carl Langenderfer, O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by the Ripley County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 of Batesville.
