Lady Bulldogs Split Weekend Games With Lady Knights

The Batesville Lady Bulldog Softball team lost to South Dearborn Friday night by a score of 2-0.

The Knights scored early in the first inning off a pair of errors by the Bulldogs. They were then held scoreless until the 6th inning when 2 base hits scored another run.

The Bulldogs ended with 4 hits: Burkhart, Oldham, Waechter, and Cornn all had singles. The Bulldogs also left 5 runners on base.  Kara Obermeyer pitched the full 7 innings and ended with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks and a 1.0 ERA. Wilson and Cornn both finished with 6 putouts while Obermeyer ended with 4 assists. Cornn ended the game with zero passed ball and threw out 2 runners stealing 2nd.

Considering South Dearborn’s great hitting capabilities, I thought we played a very good game against them. Our defense played a great game after the 1st inning, but our bats continued to struggle.

Up next – Connersville at home Tuesday with a game time of 5:30.

The JV Lady Bulldogs defeated the South Dearborn Lady Knights Friday evening by a score of 4-3.

The game was tightly contested all night with the Lady Knights striking first in the top half of the second.  A single and a walk came around to score when South Dearborn’s nine batter hit a two out double in the gap.  The Bulldogs responded in the bottom half with two of their own.  Hannah Nunlist led off the inning with a walk and scored on a wild pitch by the South Dearborn pitcher.  McKenzie Laker followed suit with a walk and came around to score on an error committed by the Lady Knights.  The Lady Knights struck again in the third when a Bulldog error to the leadoff hitter came around to score on a double to the following hitter.  The Bulldogs charged back in the bottom half of the third when Gwen Martin hit a double and Chloe Saler followed up with a single the very next pitch to drive her home.  Saler came around to score on a wild pitch to push the Bulldogs out to the 4-3 advantage, which they never surrendered.

The JV Bulldogs were led at the plate by Martin who had two doubles on the evening.  Paige Oldham and Saler were the other hits for the Bulldogs with one a piece. Abby Westerfeld pitched a great game on the mound for the Bulldogs striking out nine Lady Knight hitters while allowing just four hits.

Batesville JV Softball will next be in action Thursday evening at home against the visiting Greensburg Lady Pirates.
