Bulldogs Jump Out To Early Lead In Victory Over North Decatur. An early lead helped the Bulldogs defeat North Decatur 12-3 on Saturday. The Bulldogs scored on an RBI by Quinn Werner in the first inning and did not look back.
Batesville, who led the entire game, secured the victory thanks to six runs in the fourth inning.The Bulldogs’ big inning was driven by a walk , a single, and another RBI single by Alex Roell.
Senior Garrett Burkhart earned the win for Batesville. He tossed five innings, surrendering three runs, two hits, stuck out three, and improved his season pitching record to 2-0. Stirn took the loss for North Decatur. He threw three and a third innings, allowing six runs, seven hits, and striking out one.
The Bulldogs had 13 hits in the game. Jacob Christie, Roell, and Trey Heidlage each collected multiple hits for the Bulldogs. Christie led Batesville with three hits in five at bats. The Bulldogs stole nine bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Christie led the way with three.
Batesville Wins Back-And-Forth Affair Against Connersville. Batesville and Connersville played a taut affair on Saturday, but the Bulldogs eventually prevailed 5-3 after taking the lead for good in the sixth inning. The Bulldogs were down 3-1 going into the bottom of the sixth, but scored four runs in the inning to take the lead for good.
Connersville captured the lead in the first inning, as Nathan Clark drove in one when he hit his first of two home runs on the day in the first inning. After the Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, Connersville plated two more in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, Trey Heidlage, Zach Britton, Jacob Christie and Alex McPherson all scored runs for the Bulldogs to take their first and final lead of the game.
Junior Zach Blomer earned the win for the Bulldogs. He threw six and one-thirds innings, giving up three runs, seven hits, and striking out five. Joe Bohman came in with the bases loaded and forced an infield fly and a fly out to left field to record the save, as he recorded the last two outs for the Bulldogs. Dalton Huffman took the loss for Connersville. He went six innings, giving up five runs, seven hits, striking out eight, and walking one.
Alex McPherson went 2-for-3 at the plate as he led the team with two runs batted in. The Bulldogs didn’t commit a single error in the field. Zach Britton had six chances in the field, the most on the team.
Both wins on Saturday improve the Bulldogs’ record to 10-5 overall and 5-1 in the EIAC (first place). Batesville will take on Seymour on Monday.
