Deer-Related Accidents Up In Franklin County

With hunting season in full swing, deer have been causing issues for commuters and police.

The Franklin County Sheriffs Department has responded to six deer-related accidents since Wed. Nov 13.

Of the six reported, three occurred on State Road 1, two on U.S. 52 and one on Fairfield Causeway Road.

“This time of year is the hunting season, so that’s a factor since you have a lot of people in the woods,” said Bill Bevel, a District 9 Conservation Officer.

Deer traditionally roam more during the dusk and dawn, therefore increasing the odds of a deer-related accident in the morning or evening.

Bevel said drivers should be alert regardless of the situation.

“If you just keep your eyes up and not be distracted by other things, your going to greatly decrease the possibility of having a car-deer collision,” referenced Bevel.

The six accidents include only those reported to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.
