UPDATE: Winter weather advisory canceled for Ripley, Franklin, Dearborn counties

SOUTHEASTERN IN — The situation continues to improve following the winter storm that socked the area Thursday into Friday.

The National Weather Service has canceled the Winter Weather Advisory for Ripley, Franklin, and Dearborn counties in Southeastern Indiana.

Franklin County has moved into the YELLOW status, which is the lowest level of local travel advisory. This means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation, and individuals should use caution or avoid those areas.

Ripley, Decatur, and Dearborn counties are under an ORANGE travel watch. The Orange or “watch” status means conditions are threatening to public safety, and that only essential travel – such as to and from work or in emergency situations – is recommended.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security county travel status map can be viewed here: www.in.gov/dhs/traveladvisory/.

If you must travel, plan on slippery road conditions. You should slow down and use caution while driving.

The latest road conditions across the state are available by calling (800) 261-7623.

All area schools were closed Friday because of the lingering effects of the winter storm.
