Weekend Local Sports Results

The Lady Bulldogs JV team won 2-0 on Saturday Morning, August 15th. They played great soccer possessing the ball the majority of the game.   

The Lady Bulldogs Varsity team played well in the first half, keeping Seymour to a nil-nil tie at halftime. The second half we had some bright spots where we possessed the ball from time to time, but ultimately gave up two goals to lose 2-0.

The Batesville Bulldogs Boys Soccer traveled to Milan High School to open up the season’s first match On Saturday, August 15th winning 4-0 . This was the first time the boys have had their chance to play another team all summer.

The first half Batesville did a good job possessing on the field but took a while to break the 0-0 tie. Finally, with 1:12 left on the clock, Eli Pierson dribbled and the keeper stopped him but he was able to pass back to JJ Kuisel for an open shot into the net. The next goal came seconds later from a cross that Calvin Sherwood headed down into the box, then deflected and JJ Kuisel finished again. Early in the second half 35:29 Ian Powers crossed in the ball, Adam Vogelsang volleyed it and Eli Pierson turned and shot to goal. The fourth goal came at 25:45 when Eli Pierson dribbled the defense cut back juking multiple defenders and finished to goal.

It has been way too long since I have been able to type results and I am so excited to do so again!

SO, Batesville High School Cross Country opened their 2020 Season with a very early departure on a bus (5:30 am) headed to Terre Haute where they competed in the Terre Haute South Valley Kick-Off Invitational at the State Championship course of LaVern Gibson.  The season definitely didn’t open up with a “little” race as there were 22 girls teams competing and 28 boys.  Even at 8:30 in the morning, it was still very hot and humid, but the Bulldogs competed very well as the girls claimed the 6th place finish (out of 22) and the boys came in a strong 9th (out of 28th).  Maria Lopez led the way for the girls to run an outstanding race and getting in the top 20 of the very competitive field placing 19th (21:11). Ava Hason was 2nd for the Bulldogs at 42nd (21:54) followed closely by teammates Madison Rahschulte in 52nd (22:19) and Sophie Myers 54th (22:21). Finishing out the top 7 were, Trysta Vierling, 75th (22:53), Megan Allgeier, 90th (23:31) and Carley Pride, 139th (25:30).  Way to go ladies!

The Varsity boys were led by Benjamin Moster and Ean Loichinger, just missing out in the top 20 at 23rd and 27th respectively and racing in at 17:13 and 17:15. Following them was Adam Hollowell at 17:36 and crossing the line at 41st.  Eli Loichinger was next for the dogs in 101st place (18:51) and finishing out the top 7 were, Nathan Villani, 125th (19:38) followed closely by Will Nuhring, 138th (19:40) and Daren Smith, 147th (19:51). Good job boys!

The Dogs will stay on their home course this coming Thursday, August 20th where they will host Greensburg, North Decatur, and South Decatur.  Batesville will also take this opportunity to honor our seniors.  Please come out and support your BHSXC and seniors!  The action begins at 5 pm!

The Batesville Lady Bulldogs finished 12th in the 19 team lapel invitational with a score of 374. Emma Weiler finished third individually with a 74. Other scores for The Bulldogs were Josie Meyer 90. Tori Harpring 100. Madelyn Pohlman 110. Rhea Miller. 114.

The Franklin County Girls Golf Team placed 4th at a loaded 19 team event at Lapel. The Wildcats shot a 352. This event along with the hot start for the season has gained the attention of the state as the Wildcats are now ranked in the Top 25!

The varsity squad was up first and took the lead 2-0 with excellent passing and teamwork. JV played second and while they didn’t score they shut out the Centerville varsity team. The varsity squad started the 3rd period with a couple of defending breakdowns to give up two quick goals but answered back with two of their own to finish the three-period scrimmage.

The Greensburg Lady Pirates hosted Knightstown Panthers for their season opener. The game started by honoring this year’s seniors, Katie Beam (13), Hilary Ernstes (21), Emily Rosales (3), Tinei Kramer (18), and Kaelyn Spears (17).  

With the roar of the crowd still loud with excitement for the starting seniors, the Lady Panthers had possession of the ball for the opening kickoff. The Panthers jumped to an early lead, 2-0 but the Lady Pirates held strong. Going into the half, even though Senior Emily Rosales, and Sophomores Natalie Kalinowski and Emilee Ernstes each found the back of the net, the Pirates still trailed 4-3.     

In the second half, Junior Kayla Haycock (1) was able to settle her first High School Career goal. Emily Rosales was the lead scorer for the Lady Pirates. She was able to contribute a Hat Trick and more with a total of four goals. Few players have accomplished four goals in one game at Greensburg.  

After two hard-fought halves of High School Ladies Soccer, the Greensburg Pirates secured the win 7-4. The score represented lots of defensive stands and several great passes and assists. Seniors Hilary Ernstes and Kaelyn Spears lead the team in individual assists at four. Pirates Keeper, Junior Ella Lowe (50), was able to save eight shots from making it to the scoreboard.

The Lady Pirates travel to Rising Sun on Tuesday (8/18) for a start time of 5:30 and Oldenburg on Thursday with a start time of 5.

JCD Lady Eagles kicked off the 2020 season with a win over Tri-High in two sets (25-17, 25-20)

Desiree Sparks led the team in serving to go 16/16 with 6 aces as well as 2 blocks.. Aundrea Cullen was 10/13 on serve to receive with a 2.00 passer rating. Shaylee Volz led the team with 5 kills followed by Emma Newhart, McKenzy Gray, and Olivia Strunk each with 3 kills. Aundrea Cullen and Shaylee Volz were also stat leaders with 8 digs each. Katelyn Wagner led with 8 assists.

The JCD Lady Eagles kicked off the 2020 season with a win over Tri-High in two sets (25-17, 25-20).

In the second match of the day, JCD fell to host Morristown 25-17, 25-23. The Eagles fell behind early in both sets but fought back to make them both close sets.

Shaylee Volz led the team from the service line going 12/12/ with 2 aces. Aundrea Cullen was 13/15 on serve receive and Volz was 9/9 with a 2.11 passer rating. Volz also led with 4 kills on 18 attempts. Desiree Sparks continued to be solid at the net with 3 blocks. Katelyn Wagner and Volz both had 10 digs which led the team. Wagner had 6 assists on 32 attempts.

In the third match at the Morristown Invitational Jac-Cen-Del, Varsity Volleyball fell to Rising Sun in three sets. (25-13, 23-25, 15-9) The Lady Eagles started out extremely slow in the first set but woke up in set two to win and force a third set. Once again they fell behind early and in the end, they couldn’t make up the early deficit.

Aundrea Cullen led the team going 12/12 from the service line with 4 aces. Cullen also was a team leader on serve receive on 24/27. Desiree Sparks continued her strong play with 4 kills on 10 attempts. Emma Newhart added 3 kills on as many attempts. In addition, Sparks also added 4 more blocks. Shaylee Volz led the team with 8 digs. Katelyn Wagner and Macey Moorman both contributed 5 assists on 23 and 25 attempts respectively.
