Walter “Happy” Virgil Gilbreath Jr., 72, of Batesville, passed away February 15, 2022 in Cincinnati. He was born to Walter Sr. and Maggie (Jewell) Gilbreath in Evarts, Kentucky on June 3, 1949.
Walter was an avid outdoorsman and could often be found fishing or hunting. He enjoyed muscle cars and had a 1971 Ford Torino 500. Anyone who knew Walter, knew he had a great sense of humor. More than anything, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and give them rides on the quad. He will be missed by all who loved him dearly, especially his dog, Bella.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Quick) Gilbreath; daughters, Rebekah Blackhart and Amy Hernandez (Tito); sons, Walter Gilbreath III (Rachel) and Travis Gilbreath (Zandra); grandchildren, Killian, Lilith, Kyla, Walter IV, Edwin, Isaiah, and Elena; and sister, Shirley Goodpaster.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Gene Farmer and Jimmy Don.
A visitation will be held Monday, February 21, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a funeral service officiated by Pastor Darrell Peters beginning at 1:00 PM all at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery (Huntersville) in Batesville with graveside military honors conducted by the Batesville VFW Post #3183 and Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.
