Union County man faces animal cruelty-related charges

West College Corner, In. — A Union County property owner on South Brookville Pike is facing multiple charges in connection with an investigation into improperly disposing of a dead animal.

The Union County Sheriff’s Department and inspectors from the Indiana Department of Agriculture allegedly found as many as 38 dead livestock animals, all in various states of decomposition. Indiana state law requires deceased livestock animals to be properly disposed of within 24-hours of death.

Officials reported the surviving members of the herd were below normal weight and the barn floor was covered with approximately one-foot of manure.

Rodney Sintz is accused of misdemeanor cruelty to animals and felony failure to properly dispose of a dead animal. Bond in the case was set at $50,000. If convicted he could face a sentence of 6-months to 2 1/2 years.

This is an ongoing investigation.
