Batesville, In. — Today is National Vietnam Veterans Day. The holiday was officially designated by President Donald Trump in 2017 and is marked by celebrations and ceremonies across the United States.
Prior to that in 2012, President Barack Obama declared a 13-year celebration to honor Vietnam Veterans.
President Trump said, “Our accountability efforts in Vietnam are very, very important to all of us. We will not rest until all of the 1,253 missing veterans are returned home,” he said. “Our veterans are a national treasure, and I thank them all for their service, sacrifice and patriotism.”
There are still 51 Hoosiers reported as MIA from the war. All will be honored during a ceremony today on Monument Circle organized by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
