In boys’ tennis sectional action Thursday at East Central, the host Trojans defeated Oldenburg Academy 4-1, and it was Batesville over Lawrenceburg 5-0. The Trojans and Bulldogs will meet for the sectional championship tomorrow.
Batesville wins the girls’ race at the Greensburg cross country invitational. The Bulldogs scored a perfect 15. The host Pirates came in third with 114 and East Central rounded out the top 5 with 127 points. BHS’ Kaylynn Bedel was the race champion with a time of 20:22. The Batesville boys finished second behind Lawrence North. The Bulldogs scored 82 and Greensburg finished in third with 99. Batesville senior Jake Chapman crossed the finish line at 16:17 to take the meet champion crown.
Oldenburg Academy fell to Richmond 4-2 in boys’ soccer. Zach Hoff and Henry Wanstrath scored the Twisters’ goals. OA finishes the regular season at 9-5-2.
In varsity volleyball, it was South Decatur over Rising Sun in three sets. Scores were 25-21, 25-14, 25-19 in favor of the Cougars.
Best of luck to Batesville girls golf and East Central’s Rowan Pies as they compete at the IHSAA state finals today and tomorrow at Prairie View Golf Course in Carmel.
It’s Week Seven of the high school football season. Greensburg and Batesville renew their gridiron rivalry tonight at the Dawg Pound. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 103.9 FM and the WRBI app. Terrance Arney and Tom Snape will have the call.

In the Major League Baseball playoffs, the New York Mets doubled up the Brewers 4-2 in Milwaukee to win the third and deciding game of their National League Wild Card series. The Mets advance to the NL Division Series where they will go up against the Phillies. Game one of the best-of-five series is tomorrow in Philadelphia.
Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever is the near-unanimous WNBA Rookie of the Year. Clark received 66 out of 67 votes. The only vote not for the Fever Guard went to Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.
