The Batesville Bulldogs claimed the their second baseball sectional title in three years and 15th in program history with a 3-1 victory over the defending champion Greensburg Pirates in the Class 3A Sectional 29 championship game heard last night on the Sports Voice. The game was tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the 5th inning when the host Bulldogs plated two runs – one on a Noah Weigel sacrifice fly, and Ronan Post’s second RBI double of the game. Brayden Maple started on the mound and went five innings. He got the win and Carson Meyer came on in the 6th and shut the door to earn the save. Batesville improves to 17-10 and advances to Saturday’s 3A regional against Providence. Site and time to be determined.  Greensburg finishes with a 20-8 mark…

In other baseball sectional finals last night, North Decatur doubled up Knightstown 8-4 to win the Class 1A sectional at Morristown. The Chargers scored four times in both the 2nd and 5th innings. They’re now 15-8 and will play Hauser in the regional; East Central was eliminated by host Columbus North 3-0 in the Class 4A Sectional 14 title game. The Bull Dogs scored all three runs in the 4th inning. The Trojans end the year at 21-7; and South Ripley fell at home to Brownstown Central 10-0 in 5 innings in 2A Sectional 45. The Braves erupted for eight runs in the 4th. Ripley ends the season at 11-9.

Milan entertains Knightstown in the Class 1A softball regional this evening. The Indians are ranked 2nd in 1A and sport a 29-4 record coming in. The Panthers are 17-7. Coverage begins at 5:45 on 103.9 FM and the WRBI App.

The Kansas City Royals dumped the Cincinnati Reds 9-2 at Great American Ball Park in a game heard last night on WRBI. Chase Burns was scheduled to start for the Reds but was scratched because of an illness. Lyon Richardson took his place and lasted just one inning, giving up a grand slam to Lane Thomas. The Royals went deep a total of three times against Cincinnati pitching. JJ Bleday hit his 10th home run of the season in the Reds’ half of the 1st. Top prospect Edwin Arroyo made his major league debut for Cincinnati after Elly De La Cruz was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain. Arroyo collected his first career big league hit in the bottom of the 9th and scored on Matt McLain’s RBI double. The series continues tonight when Andrew Abbott goes to the mound at game’s beginning. We’ll join it in progress following high school softball regional coverage.

The Indianapolis Colts are mourning the passing of Raymond Berry. The Pro Football Hall of Famer died at the age of 93 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Berry played 13 seasons for the Colts when they were located in Baltimore, and was a six-time Pro Bowl selection. Team owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon said in a statement that Berry was not only one of the greatest players in the history of the Colts, but also one of the most influential and foundational players of the modern NFL.
