The 50th IHSAA girls basketball tournament tipped off last night with several games involving area teams. In a pair of contests at Class 3A Sectional 29 at Lawrenceburg heard on the Sports Voice, Batesville rolled over Franklin County 53-31 in the opener. The Bulldogs held the Wildcats scoreless in the first quarter, led 17-0 and never looked back. Sophie Gesell led all scorers with 18 points for Batesville while teammate Maddie Haskamp added 16. Ruby Singer and Madesyn Sunderhaus each tossed in eight for the Cats. The Dogs improve to 16-8; the Wildcats end their season at 11-12. In the nightcap, it was 3A #1 Greensburg over Lawrenceburg 55-39. The Pirates led by only six at halftime but pulled away in the second half. Claire Larrison tossed in a game high 24 for Greensburg, while Leah West added a dozen. The host Tigers were led by Kamryn Ferreira with 19. The Pirates improve to 22-0 and move on to the second semi on Friday versus South Dearborn. The Tigers season ends at 12-9.
In other first round girls sectional games involving area teams last night, North Decatur topped Edinburgh 49-21 at the 1A sectional at Southwestern (Shelby), and at the 1A sectional at Hauser, eighth-ranked Oldenburg eliminated Rising Sun 62-42, and Milan knocked off Crothersville 45-26. The Twisters and Indians will meet in Friday night’s first semifinal.

Greensburg 7th grade girls basketball defeated St. Louis 34 to 8. Lydia Dwyer led the Cardinals with four points while Claire Baker and Reagan Siefert each added two.
The Portland Trailblazers defeated the Pacers 112-89 in a game heard last night on WRBI. Indiana falls to 28-21. The Pacers trip to the West Coast continues tomorrow night against the Los Angeles Clippers.
The seventh-ranked Purdue Boilermakers went on the road and knocked off Iowa 90-81. Purdue goes to 18-5 overall and sits atop the Big Ten standings with a 10-2 conference mark.
#21 Wisconsin bested the Indiana Hoosiers 76-64 in Madison. IU drops to 14-9 overall and 5-7 in the Big Ten.
