
Batesville golf finished eighth in the 20-team Whiteland Invitational on Saturday. Bulldog senior Jon Moody was the individual third place finisher with a 1-over-par-73.

The Detroit Tigers beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-3 in the series finale at Great American Ball Park heard yesterday on WRBI. After the Reds went in front 3-2, the Tigers scored retook the lead with four runs in the 7th inning. The Reds bullpen gave up six runs on Sunday, with three coming via home runs. Sam Moll took the loss. His record falls to 1-1. Despite the loss, the Reds took two out of three games in the series. The Reds have an off day before starting a three-game series at home tomorrow night against the Colorado Rockies.
Meanwhile, the Reds made several roster moves over the weekend. Eugenio Suarez was placed on the 10-day Injured List retroactive to April 24 with a left oblique strain. The team optioned pitcher Kyle Nicolas to Triple-A Louisville, and recalled outfielder JJ Bleday and righthanded pitcher Jose Franco. The Reds also activated catcher Jose Trevino from the 10-day Injured List and optioned catcher P.J. Higgins to Louisville. And pitcher Nick Lodolo, who been dealing with a left index finger blister, was sent to High A Dayton on a rehab assignment. On Sunday, Lodolo pitched five scoreless innings for the Dragons against South Bend in downtown Dayton. He gave up two hits and struck out seven, and threw 51 pitches – 39 for strikes.
A record eight players from Indiana University were drafted over the weekend. Fernando Mendoza went first overall to the Las Vegas Raiders. Omar Cooper was taken by the New York Jets. D’Angelo Ponds also went to the Jets; Kaelon Black was picked by the San Francisco 49ers; Elijah Sarratt was selected by the Baltimore Ravens; Riley Nowakowski went to the Pittsburgh Steelers; Pat Coogan was picked by the Tennessee Titans, and Aiden Fisher was drafted by the Houston Texans.
IndyCar drivers will be back on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval tomorrow. It’ll be the first of two days of open testing as teams get ready for the Indianapolis 500. This year’s edition of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” will be held on May 24.
