Single family home permits slide in April

Indianapolis, Ind. — Single family home permits in Indiana dropped four percent in April compared to the same period last year. The report from the U.S. Census Bureau says even though permits dropped eight percent from March to April, permits for 2017 are up 10 percent during the first quarter of 2017.

“Despite a statistical decrease, we are optimistic that the housing industry remains strong, having more permits thus far than we did in 2016,” said Indiana Builders Association Chief Executive Officer Rick Wajda. “Indiana should expect to see an active increase in home building as we enter the warmer months.”

The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index says builder confidence rose two points in May. Any number over 50 indicates builders have a positive view on the market.
