Ripley County Drug Awareness Coalition holds 2nd annual National Night Out

VERSAILLES, IN — The Ripley County Drug Awareness Coalition held its 2nd annual National Night Out on October 6 at the Bel Air Drive-In. This family fun event featured a free movie, “The Goonies,” along with a free hot dog and drink for all who attended. The event was funded from a grant from the Rising Sun Regional Foundation as well as donations from the RomWeber Marketplace and Cierra’s Club.

Drug-related crimes in Ripley County are at an all-time high. Ripley County law enforcement and Ripley County Circuit Courts estimate that 75% of crimes in Ripley County are drug-related. The Ripley County Drug Awareness Coalition hosts National Night Out to help forge a working partnership with law enforcement and the community. At the event, families met law enforcement officers from Ripley County Sheriff’s department, City of Batesville, Indiana State Police, and other towns. Firetrucks and police cars were on hand providing children and adults an up-close opportunity to explore these types of vehicles.

Ripley County Drug Coalition works with local agencies to prevent and reduce the effects of alcohol, tobacco, vaping, and other drugs in Ripley County. The community is welcome to attend their monthly meetings which are held on the third, Thursday of each month from 12 noon until 1 pm at 147 W. Ripley Street in Osgood.
