Reds no-hit Pirates but lose; split four-game series

The Reds split a four-game series with the Pirates in Pittsburgh.  Cincinnati had a great chance to win its third straight series on Sunday but did not do so despite Hunter Greene and Art Warren combining to throw a no hitter.

The Reds lost 1-0 and it marked only the sixth time in Major League Baseball history a team which threw a no hitter also lost. Greene struck out nine and walked five over 7-1/3 innings.

The Pirates scored the game’s only run in the eighth inning on three walks followed by a fielder’s choice RBI from Ke’Bryan Hayes.

The series started on Thursday with the Reds snapping a 13-game road losing streak with a 4-0 shutout against Pittsburgh.

Cincy starting pitcher Conner Overton, who pitched well without a victory in his first two starts, got his first career MLB win against the Pirates.  He was also the first Reds pitcher this season to complete six innings.

Tyler Stephenson continued to swing a hot bat with a single, a dinger and two RBI.  Colin Moran and Tyler Naquin also batted in a run.

For the first time this season, the Reds won three consecutive games when they pounded the Pirates 8-2 on Friday.

The Moose, Mike Moustakas, smacked two solo home runs.  Brandon Drury doubled and homered with four RBI. Tyler Mahle pitched six innings for the win and struck out eight.

Saturday’s game saw Cincy fall 3-0.  The Reds had just four hits.  Moustakas had the team’s only RBI.
