Pursuit leads GPD to Ripley County

Greensburg, IN — Recently, an officer with the Greensburg Police Department (GPD) attempted to stop a vehicle behind a closed business on West Main Street. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop for Greensburg Officers and a pursuit began leading officers to Batesville, after traveling through several county roads. The driver of the vehicle stopped the vehicle just east of Batesville’s city limits where both the driver and passenger fled on foot.

One individual was taken into custody immediately, while Greensburg Officer Mitch Tuttle and K-9 Hercules began to track a second individual. Officer Tuttle and K-9 Hercules located the male hiding behind a building. K-9 Hercules and Officer Tuttle eventually took the male into custody after the male continued to resist officers by striking both Officer Tuttle and Hercules several times.

The two individuals were identified as Alexander Burgdorf, 35, and Benjamin Curtis, 39, of Iowa. During the investigation, officers learned that both males had warrants out of Iowa. Both males were taken into custody and transported to the Decatur County Jail. 

Alexander Burgdorf was charged on allegations of a parole warrant from Iowa, Resisting Law Enforcement in a Vehicle, Possession of Methamphetamine, Battery of a Law Enforcement Officer, Striking of a Law Enforcement Animal, Possession of Marijuana, Aggressive Driving, and Reckless Driving.  

Benjamin Curtis was charged on allegations of a parole warrant from Iowa, Resisting Law Enforcement in a Vehicle, and Possession of Methamphetamine.

The Greensburg Police Department was assisted throughout the incident by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Ripley Co Sheriff’s Department, and the Batesville Police Department.
