(Franklin County, IN) – Two Attempted Murder charges and other counts have been refiled in Franklin County against Gregory Guilfoyle in connection with the shooting of his wife and a deputy in December 2022.
Prosecutor Chris Huerkamp asked for the charges to be dismissed in February with the understanding they would be refiled, after he was denied a continuance by Franklin County Circuit Judge Steven Cox to review records submitted by the defense.
A February trial date was set after the continuance was denied.
Huerkamp said at the time of the dismissal that the case was far from over.
In addition to the charges being refiled, Huerkamp has requested the appointment of a special judge, saying Cox visited Guilfoyle at the suspect’s parents’ home while he recovered from being shot by Deputy Arin Bowers.
Guilfoyle is accused of shooting and critically wounding his wife Hannah at their Colonial Heights Drive home and then taking their 23-month-old daughter into subzero weather.
He was spotted walking in the area of State Road 1 and U.S. 52 carrying the child, and allegedly shot at Bowers, who escaped injury thanks to his protective body armor, and returned fire. Guilfoyle was critically injured but the child was not hurt.
Guilfoyle is facing a total of 12 charges: two counts of Attempted Murder; two counts of Aggravated Battery; one count of Domestic Battery; two counts of Neglect of a Dependent; one count of Battery with a Deadly Weapon; one count of Pointing a Firearm, and three counts of Use of a Firearm.
