(Statewide) – Indianapolis City-County Councilor Keith Potts says he’s abandoning his bid for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination.

This comes five months after he launched his bid for the seat.

Potts says he has new professional opportunities and decided not to run for the Senate.

He previously opted not to run for re-election this year for Indianapolis City-County Council.

The Senate seat is being vacated by Republican Mike Braun, who is running for Indiana Governor next year.

With Potts departure from the race, Marc Carmichael and Valerie McCray are the two Democrats vying for the open seat.

Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) and businessman John Rust are running for the Republican nomination.
