GREENSBURG, IN — Police Chief Mike McNealy gave an update to Greensburg City Council Tuesday night on Active Violence Response training.

McNealy says most of the area police officers, plus a large number of paid and volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel took part in the sessions, which happened over two days last week at Greensburg High School.

“It’s basically the way we would react to an active violence situation. Obviously, that’s a hot topic in the community – it’s a hot topic across the nation – and we are taking steps and we have been taking steps for many months to coordinate a response for law enforcement, fire, and EMS,” McNealy said.

He emphasized the training is not in response to recent mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, New York.

“We started planning for this back in the winter for this training and this policy we’re creating and this response plan that we’re implementing,” he said.

McNealy added although the training took place in a school, responders from multiple area jurisdictions are more prepared to respond to an incident no matter the setting – be it a church, factory, business, or an outdoor event.
