Nobody injured in Rush County ambulance crash

crash-lightRUSH COUNTY, Ind. — The Rush County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a multiple vehicle accident east of Rushville early last week on US 52.

The accident was set apart from any other accident, because it involved an ambulance during a run.

The Rush Memorial Hospital ambulance was eastbound with lights and sirens engaged, responding to a 911 call.

The ambulance approached an intersection with multiple eastbound vehicles.

The vehicles pulled onto the south shoulder, except for a semi.

The semi was stopped in the eastbound lane.

As the ambulance approached, it entered the westbound lane to go around the semi, but the semi began turning left into a driveway and into the path of the ambulance.

The driver of the ambulance attempted to avoid the collision by driving into a ditch, but the semi struck the ambulance in the front wheel area and then the passenger side.

According to police, the driver of the semi said they couldn’t hear the siren or see the ambulance approaching.

A second ambulance was dispatched to the original call immediately after the report of the accident.

Nobody was injured in the collision.
