(Batesville, IN) – The Batesville Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC) was recognized for its work during the recently concluded school year at Monday night’s City Council meeting.

The 27-member group contributed 1,859 volunteer hours this year with three students putting in 75 or more hours.

They are Ella King, Emily Merkel, and Henry Spreckelson.

Four others – Sophie Cassidy, Veronica King, Jon Spreckelson, and Ella Walters notched 100-plus volunteer hours.

Cassidy and fellow outgoing seniors Joseph Tarkington, and Tristan Rowlett will be remembered for their years of service through a plaque donated by MYC to the City.

This is the 13th year the plaque will serve as a remembrance of everything those students did for the organization and the Batesville community.

MYC co-advisor Bill Giltz says plaques from previous years are currently tucked away in the Mayor’s Office on the first floor of the Memorial Building but will soon be moved to the area near Council Chambers on the second floor for everyone to see.

The group’s other co-advisor is Kim Linkel.

The Mayor’s Youth Council’s most notable projects this year were organizing the WAVE Camp, which will take place next week, and the Project Park Pizazz, in which the basketball courts and other areas of Liberty Park will be refurbished.

That project is expected to be completed this fall.
