(Batesville, IN) – The Margaret Mary Health Foundation is thanking donors who helped make a pair of grants awarded to the hospital in March possible.
The wheelchairs in the Margaret Mary Health Main Lobby were at least 10 years old and becoming unrepairable, which prompted CBO Manager Bri Stoinoff to request 12 new wheelchairs.
The replacement chairs are already in use by patients who need a little extra assistance navigating the hospital.
The hospital also received grant funds to purchase a bladder scanner for Margaret Mary’s Cancer Center, which has seen a significant increase in prostate cancer patients.
To treat these patients, their bladder needs to be full, but the current treatment method includes setting the patient up on the treatment table, getting them ready for treatment, and x-raying their bladder to see if it’s full for treatment to begin.
If their bladder isn’t full, the patient is removed from the table, brought back to the waiting area, and given water to drink and the process starts all over again.
The bladder scanner reduces the time spent checking the patient’s bladder and minimizes their radiation exposure.
Meanwhile, the foundation’s second annual Day of Giving will be held on National Hospital Day, which is Friday, May 12.
National Hospital Day was officially declared by former President Warren G. Harding and was first observed on May 12, 1921, as a way to reinvigorate public trust and confidence in the medical sector in the aftermath of the Spanish Flu.
May 12 was chosen as the date to commemorate the birthday of Florence Nightingale.
