Milan, IN — Milan’s Ryan Langferman was named the 2022 State High School Principal of the Year at the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP) banquet Sunday night in Indianapolis.

He was chosen from the 12 district winners who were all honored at the banquet.

Langferman is in his 10th year as principal at Milan High School.

During his tenure, Langferman has implemented programs that have increased the graduation rate and encouraged students to graduate with a plan for a successful future.

Among the initiatives is the Graduation Preparation period, which meets four days per week to give students opportunities to work with a mentor teacher to learn work ethic skills and habits preparing them for life beyond high school.

Langferman was named the IASP District 10 High School Principal of the Year earlier this fall.

District 10 is located in Southeastern Indiana and is made up of Ripley, Dearborn, Decatur, Franklin, Fayette, Hancock, Jennings, Ripley, Rush, Shelby, and Union Counties.

The recognition ceremony is a part of the 2022 Principals of the Year Recognition Celebration, a part of IASP’s annual Fall Professional Conference. The prestigious award was presented at a dinner at the Indianapolis JW Marriott Hotel with the IASP State President Matt Shockley presiding along with Executive Director Dr. Todd Bess

District High School Principals of the Year are elected by their peers, with one principal honored from each of the 12 districts.

Of these 12 District High School Principal winners, one is chosen as the 2022 State High School Principal of the Year.

“We are extremely proud of Ryan Langferman being chosen as the State Principal of the Year for 2022. Ryan is a dedicated educational leader and he puts the needs of students first. Ryan has hired quality teachers and staff who all support his vision that students graduate with a plan. Ryan graduated from Milan and has a passion for the people of our community. He certainly represents the best of principals in Indiana,”  said Milan Community Schools Superintendent Jane Rogers.

The Indiana Association of School Principals is in its 30th year and is a not-for-profit, professional association serving over 3,300 building-level administrators in the State of Indiana.
