MILAN, IN — Milan American Legion Post 235 is expecting another capacity crowd and then some for Monday night’s Treasure Hunt drawing, and for good reason.

The jackpot stands at $1,080,400.

The Treasure Hunt is open to anyone 21 and older and you don’t have to be a Legion member to play.

Players purchase tickets for $1, put their name, phone number, and one of the remaining game board numbers on each ticket, and drop them in a drum.

Post Commander Walt Ruggles says the Treasure Hunt was started several years ago to generate funds to support veterans, children, and the community.

“We’ve gone through several boards, and this particular one began almost a year ago and has grown to the level that it is today,” Ruggles said.

The Legion parking lot has been jammed packed for recent Monday night drawings to the point that shuttle buses have been used to transport Treasure Hunt participants from the Milan Community Schools campus.

While the support from Southeastern Indiana residents and others outside the area who have come to play each week is appreciated, Ruggles wants everyone to be considerate when they come to the Legion for Monday night’s drawing.

“We would like to ask for them to be respectful to the volunteers and the people who are working, and also be respectful of our neighbors’ properties, and make sure you leave room when you’re parking for emergency vehicles to get through,” he said.

There are two numbers left going into Monday’s drawing.
