DECATUR COUNTY, IN — Mark Alan Ring was sentenced Monday in Decatur Circuit Court to 11 years in prison after pleading guilty to Possession of Methamphetamine and for being a Habitual Offender.
Ring was pulled over last November in Greensburg by then-officer Brandon Meyer, who is now the city’s assistant police chief. That traffic stop escalated into a drug investigation involving several search warrants which ultimately yielded a large amount of Meth that Ring pleaded guilty to possessing.
During the investigation, it was learned that Ring has a lengthy felony criminal history in his native California.
As a result of the plea deal, Ring was sentenced by Judge Tim Day to three years for possession of Meth, with an additional eight years tacked on for being a Habitual Offender.
Ring will serve his 11-year sentence in the Indiana Department of Corrections.
He was scheduled to stand trial on the charge trial next month.
Decatur County Prosecutor Nate Harter is recognizing law enforcement personnel for their work on this case, specifically, the lead investigator on the case Assistant Chief Meyer and Officers Austin Gross and Stephen Hershberger.
“Vigilant law enforcement uncovers crime, and here Assistant Chief Meyer trusted his instincts to turn a routine traffic stop into a large-scale drug bust on a criminal whose career spans four decades,” said Harter. “This was a great win for law enforcement and for Decatur County.”
