UNDATED — The U.S. Marine who saved Kelsee Lainhart’s life during the deadly terrorist attack on the Kabul, Afghanistan airport last August has been awarded the Bronze Star.

Sgt. Wyatt Wilson was also wounded but helped get Lainhart to a medivac helicopter after she was seriously injured in the attack that killed 13 U.S. service members and wounded several others.

Nearly 200 Afghan civilians were also injured.

According to taskandpurpose.com, Sgt. Wilson this week was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with a V device for his valor and heroism.

Lainhart, who is a 2019 East Central High School graduate, and Wilson were reunited at a Washington D.C. area hospital last September.

Lainhart wrote in a caringbridge.org post that she wasn’t sure she would ever get to personally thank Wilson following the attack, calling him “her hero.”

“I don’t know how you were able to save my life given your injuries, but I thank God for you and your strength and that you are alive today for me to be able to thank you,” wrote Lainhart.

She continues with physical therapy at a facility in the Chicago area.
