Manus delivers Greensburg ‘State of the City’

Greensburg, In. — Greensburg mayor Dan Manus delivered his annual State of the City address during the Greensburg Rotary Club meeting Monday.

Manus started by recognizing city employees, members of council, Board of Works and the members of 24 different committees that have addressed city issues.

Some of the Highlights of 2017 were:

  • The opening of the Norman D. Stewart Fire Station #2 (with help from Washington Township, Greensburg Police & Fire)
  • Expanded the police force twenty 20 officers and added a K-9
  • Matched $500,000 from the Community Crossing Grant Program, for a total investment of $1 million in city infrastructure
  • A makeover for the trash and recycling receptacles
  • The addition of a boom-truck to assist with city-wide cleanup operations

Manus told the group in 2018 the plans to complete Lincoln Street at an estimated cost of about $1.2 million, at least $700,000 will come from the Community Crossing Grant Program. He also announced the Greensburg annual cleanup day will moved from April to May in order to better utilize part-time summer employees.

Manus said the addition of Kathy Reynolds as building commissioner and Ron May to manage street maintenance has been positive.

Economic development and unemployment have hit records. Recent investments include Valeo has added 23 jobs and $13 million in equipment, Gecom added $7 million in equipment and Hitachi made at least a $2 million investment to the Greensburg operation. He also applauded the efforts of incoming Greensburg-Decatur County Economic Development executive director Bryan Robbins.

Manus expressed excitement about the growth of the Fall Festival. He says the planning committee has grown from two community members to 12 and there are more offers for help coming in. He anticipates a great event this year.
