Lovetta Broughton

Lovetta Broughton, a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2023, at the age of 88. She leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and countless memories that will be forever etched in the hearts of those who knew her.

Born in Harlan, Kentucky, on March 5, 1935, Lovetta was the beloved daughter of Edmond and Rosa Napier. Later in life, she moved to southern Indiana, where she worked tirelessly throughout her life and became an active member of the Negangard Corner Free Will Baptist church. Her dedication to both her professional and spiritual life was a testament to her strong work ethic and unwavering faith.

Lovetta was a beacon of love in her family, and her passing leaves a void that can never be filled. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Charles Broughton, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and the warmth that only a committed partnership can bring.

She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Neil (Joann) Hensley, Kevin (Patricia) Hensley, and Diane (Milton) Hopper. Her devotion extended beyond her biological children to her stepdaughters Shirley (Daryl) Meyers, Sharon (Chuck) Gray, and Kim (Ken) Baker. Lovetta’s love knew no boundaries, and she embraced her role as a mother to all her children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren with equal affection.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Virgil Hensley, stepsons Jim Broughton and Charles Wayne Broughton, granddaughter Sonya Hensley, grandson Brent Rummel, and great-grandson Tyler Finker.

She was a sister to Ralph Napier, and she shared sisterhood with Barbara (Bob) Bingham and Pat (Jim) Norman. In the tapestry of her family, Lovetta’s love wove a bond that will endure through generations.

Lovetta found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her green thumb and love for nature were evident in her passion for flowers and gardening. She delighted in baking and cooking, creating not just meals but lasting memories for her family. Many hours were spent with loved ones, sharing stories, and creating bonds that time cannot erase.

A social spirit, Lovetta enjoyed playing card games like Rook with family and friends. These moments of laughter and competition became treasured traditions that will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of joining in the fun.

In celebrating Lovetta’s life, let us remember her for the love she shared, the memories she created, and the indelible mark she leaves on the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her. As we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate the joy and warmth she brought into our lives.
