Louis Rollino

Louis Sam Rollino was born on April 3, 1929, in Berkeley, California, a son to Erminio and Maria Luca Rollino.  He graduated from Richmond Union High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Louis married Dorothy Duggan and together they raised 2 sons.  He and his brother Joe owned and operated Rollino Brothers Bakery in San Pablo, California. Those skills were later used as a baker and cook for his Infantry Company in Okinawa, Japan. Upon his return from the war, he began working at American Standard. He excelled there and was promoted to Production Control Manager. He accepted a transfer to Torrance, in Southern California in 1969, finishing his career and retiring at the age of 54, after 25 years with the company.

He was known for his volunteerism and was a member of the Elks Club for over 50 years. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and taking the family camping to Wrights Lake in the Sierra Nevada range. He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan, and attended numerous soccer and baseball games, and music and dance recitals. He was always a part of every baptism, First Communion, Confirmation and graduation!

Dad and mom were wonderful parents who supported each other and provided a rather ideal home to raise their two boys. We listened to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and a lot of Tijuana Brass! He coached Catholic baseball teams when we were young and ushered on Sunday mornings. We were so fortunate to have so many local relatives, aunts, uncles, and cousins to spend holidays and celebrate birthdays with. Our parents were card players, and many of their dearest friends were card players, for most of their lives. Our folks were involved with us and taught us so many games, all except Bridge! The four of us played together, like Frisbee or ping pong and when it rained, we would play table games or put puzzles together (maybe not dad so much!). Camping, fishing, golfing, and hiking were the activities we enjoyed on annual trips that we loved! They taught us how to do everything!

Especially after retirement, Louis enjoyed traveling around the world with Dorothy and later with his family visiting Mazatlán, Mexico every February for over 20 years, as well as many cruises, and trips around America and Europe. During the past ten years, he treated the entire family, including all his grandchildren, to memorable trips to Germany, Italy and Ireland. These adventures opened the joy of travel for generations to follow. Whether quietly at home or traveling, he frequently broke out a deck of cards for Solitaire or 31 or golf; he was always ready to play and have time for you. He also enjoyed listening to music and attending shows with friends and family.

On Saturday, November 12, at the age of 93, after many difficult years with dementia, our Lord graciously brought him home! He passed away at the Harrison Trail Health Campus in Harrison, Ohio.

Those surviving who will cherish Louis’ memory include his sons, Dan (RaeLynn) Rollino, and Rick (Mary) Rollino; grandchildren, Christian (Jamie) Rollino, Patrick Rollino, Dominique Rollino, James (Monica) Rollino, Katie Rollino, Charlie (Julie) Rollino, Julia (Rob) McKay, and Daniel (Emma) Rollino; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Evelyn (Christian), Seraphina, Patrick, Zelie, Peter (James), Frank, Vincent, Eleanor (Charlie), Imogen, and Ronan (Julia). Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Rollino.
