(Indianapolis, IN) – Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott presented Master Trooper Daniel Elmore from the ISP Versailles Post with a life saving award for his actions at a rural Decatur County residence on July 4, 2025.

M/Trp. Elmore was patrolling that day on County Road 300 North in Decatur County when he overheard a dispatch about a three-year-old who was found unresponsive in a swimming pool.

M/Trp. Elmore quickly responded to the address on the 4000 Block of East County Road 280 North and, upon arriving, located the unresponsive child on the porch of the home where a relative was performing CPR on her.

ISP says M/Trp. Elmore noticed the relative was exhausted and he took over performing CPR on the child.

After chest compressions were administered, the child showed signs of responding.

He then rolled the child onto her side and gave her back blows to clear her airway.

As a result, the girl soon began to breathe on her own and started to cry.  Elmore monitored her until EMS arrived.

The child was flown to an Indianapolis area hospital, and has since made a full recovery.

“The Indiana State Police is honored to recognize Master Trooper for his quick response to a family in need and his actions on that day,” said Versailles Post Commander Lt. Paul Adams. “Without the life saving measures he provided, the child may not have survived this event”.
