Lincoln speech reenactment one of the planned highlights of DC Bicentennial

GREENSBURG, IN — John Pratt with the Decatur County 2022 Bicentennial Committee gave an update Thursday to the Decatur County Tourism Board.

Pratt said they will reenact Abraham Lincoln’s February 12, 1861 stopover in Greensburg on his way to his Presidential inauguration, on September 17 during the Tree City Fall Festival, with the help of the Ohio Rail Experience.

“We’re going to join the train in New Point with Abe Lincoln and a small entourage, and we will then come into the train station (on Monfort Street) and we will reenact exactly what he said, and we’re going to have a brass band,” Pratt said.

“As soon as that’s over, what we’ll be able to do is, for the local community, they’re going to offer a quick train ride from there to Batesville and back,” he added.

The Ohio Rail Experience made two stops in Greensburg this year.

Pratt concluded by saying Bicentennial activities are starting to fill dates on next year’s calendar.

The celebration will start with a soft open in January and February, with the Lecture Series to start in March.

June 11 will feature both the Bicentennial Parade and a performance by Bluegrass Hall of Famer Larry Sparks. He has lived in Decatur County for over 20 years but will be performing locally for the first time.

The Grand Finale is set for Sunday, December 11 with two performances of the Glenn Miller Orchestra playing Big Band and holiday favorites at 3 and 7 pm.
