Dearborn County, In. — Officials from the Indiana Department of Transportation say all lanes of traffic will shift along a 12-mile section of U.S. Highway 50 to single lanes on the newly resurfaced north half of this east-west roadway, weather permitting, next Tuesday and Wednesday (September 25 & 26). The state’s $16.8 million “white top” project in Dearborn County extends from State Road 101 west of Dillsboro to a terminus 2.44 miles west of S.R. 350 west of Aurora.
Contractor Walsh Construction of Crown Point has completed placement of a 4½-inch concrete overlay atop the existing asphalt base on westbound lanes of U.S. 50. These lanes will now accommodate both westbound and eastbound traffic while work progresses on the south side of the roadway.
INDOT officials anticipate all asphalt and concrete patching will be completed in U.S. 50 eastbound lanes before the contractor takes a winter hiatus. Those U.S. 50 lanes will be reopened to restore all four lanes of traffic flow through the winter months.
Next spring, workers will return to the project site to “white top” the two eastbound lanes. At that time, all traffic between Dillsboro and Aurora will be routed to U.S. 50’s westbound lanes.
Project’s completion date is late-July.
U.S. 50 has a traffic count of 13,490 vehicles per day.
