Kathleen (Kathy) Irene Moore

Kathleen Irene Moore, aka Kathy, aka Kate. January 16, 1948 – January 25, 2022. Kathy Moore passed away peacefully at home, with her family & friends that were like family by her side. Kathy married John Moore on January 17, 1970, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Enochsburg, IN. Early in life she was a licensed beautician and developed many lasting friendships with clients. Later in life she helped run John R Moore Trucking with her husband John. She always said “a company is only as good as its employees” and they had the best because they became like family.

Kathy spent her spare time, giving back to her community. She was a longtime member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority and helped raise money for numerous organizations & charities. Kathy loved giving back with these women so much, that she was elected National President during their 100 years of service. She held almost every office there was to hold within her sorority starting at the local level all the way to the national level. The friendships developed in sorority go far and wide and were some of her most treasured possessions. The amount of money these girls raised as team, was truly amazing.

Her most prized possession was and always will be her grandson Will. Whether they were rocking in the rocker downstairs, playing countless games of UNO or tubing at Perfect North slopes these two would always end their day with Chips Ahoy Reduced Fat Chocolate Chips Cookies and a Coke. Kathy never shied away from telling everyone she knew and didn’t know that she has the best grandchild ever. Will was famous across the country and Will’s mom did not have a name other than Will’s mom because he was the light of the world to Kathy. He loved “going to work” with grandma, Nick, and Brian. She would allow him to “work” on the computer like she did. Being a grandma was a way of life and she would never let anything, even work stand in the way. She passed on her love of tennis to Will and will be there watching every match. Thanks to Dave Jarvis for honing their skills. Hugh Chambers started her love of photography but photo shoots with her favorite subject (Will) helped to make photography that much more enjoyable.

Carrying a camera for Kathy was her third hand, over the years she has probably captured every resident of Decatur County at least once. Hot weather was something she was not afraid of. Over the course of her life, it is anyone’s guess just exactly how many acres of grass she mowed. However, she loved every day of it. While hot weather was her season, she was able to get through the cold months because of Christmas. Decorating inside and out, she loved it all because she also loved Jesus.

Six years ago, she was diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy (a severe form of Parkinson’s) which quickly took a toll on her body. Her loving husband was always there by her side, good days and bad. Kathy was blessed to have had some great medical rock stars to help her through this journey. She would call them her “A” team: Millie Shane, Carol Davis, Dawn Ernest, Susan Robbins & Dr. Joanne Wojieszek. These women were always willing to help any time day or night. Kathy’s faith was front and center in her life and she was so grateful that once she wasn’t able to make it to church that Nancy Mirick never hesitated to make sure she brought communion out to her.

The family (Kathy as well) would like to personally thank the following angels: Margaret Davis, Shelly Hellmich, and Walt Moore for all their help with many appointments and special stops to CVS & LA Nails along this journey. Her chauffers were always on standby when John needed them.

She is survived by husband John, mother Mary Humpert, children Suzann, Shannon (Lori), grandson Will, Danny Lawrence.

Bass and Gasper Funeral Home, Inc. Westport, IN. will be handling arrangements. Due to Covid, no visitation will be conducted. A private, family only service will occur on Monday, Jan. 31, 2022.

Those who knew her best, knew she loved flowers and while they made her happy, she would prefer you give to the following organizations that were near and dear to her heart. St. Mary’s Parish Greensburg Building Fund, Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana, Multiple System Atrophy, or National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasis.

Kathy would always say:
“Even if you can’t give money or time, you can always give a smile to someone.”
