A good Monday to you!  We hope you had a great weekend.  Here’s a look at some of what’s up in Sports…

College basketball tournaments continued over the weekend, and on the men’s side in the NCAA, the Number 1 seed in their region, Zach Edey and the Boilermakers, ripped Utah State 106-67.  So this coming Friday in the Sweet 16, Purdue will face the Bulldogs of Gonzaga, who as a 5 seed pulled a slight upset in eliminating number 4 Kansas, 89-68.

In the NIT Sunday afternoon, Indiana State’s Sycamores got their 30th win of the season, 76-64 over the Golden Gophers of Minnesota.  Also picking up an NIT victory, UC’s Bearcats, who belted Bradley Saturday, 74-57.  So the Trees host the Bearcats in the NIT quarterfinals tomorrow night, Tuesday, the tipoff set for 9:00 eastern.  And one other NIT score had Ohio State beating Virginia Tech Saturday, 81-73.  So tomorrow night the Buckeyes host the Georgia Bulldogs, who upset Number 1 seed Wake Forest Sunday, 72-66.

Women’s action over the weekend had the Hoosiers hosting N-C-Double-A play, and rolling over Fairfield of Connecticut, 89 to 56.  Senior guard Sara Scalia led Indiana in the game with 27 points, saying it was good for a shooter, in this case herself, to have a game like that, which can boost confidence, and increase accuracy.  Sara says in Indiana’s case, that confidence also helps by spreading to her teammates.

The result of that win is that the Hoosiers next face the Oklahoma Sooners in Bloomington, this evening at 6:30.  Oklahoma got there by defeating Florida Gulf Coast Saturday, 73-70.

Over the weekend in southern California, two-time Indy Car series champion Alex Palou won the non-points exhibition, the Million Dollar Challenge, at the Thermal Club near Palm Springs.  Palou’s margin of victory over Scott McLaughlin was a reported 5.8 seconds.  Felix Rosenqvist ran 3rd, Colton Herta 4th, and Marcus Armstrong 5th.

Weekend spring training baseball had the Reds snapping their losing streak Saturday by beating the Rockies 6-2, but then Sunday the Guardians topped Cincinnati 10-7.  Now the club moves everything back to Ohio, opening the regular season by hosting the Nationals this Thursday, the 28th.

And it was a high-scoring shootout in the NBA Sunday, as the Lakers just got by the Pacers, but by the huge score of 150-145.
